Great War

The name commonly used in Britain during and after 1914–18 for the global conflict now usually called the First World War. The war followed the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand on 28 June 1914 and the ensuing diplomatic crisis and mobilisation. The United Kingdom declared war on Germany on 4 August, and the conflict ended with the Armistice of 11 November 1918.
