Harveian Oration

An annual lecture of the Royal College of Physicians of London, given by an eminent Fellow in recognition of achievement in medicine. Established in 1656 under the terms of a bequest by William Harvey, it was traditionally delivered in Latin; English was adopted in 1865. By the nineteenth century the Harveian Oration had become one of the College’s most prestigious annual occasions.
