Hebdomadal Council
editThe principal governing body of the University of Oxford from 1854 to 2000, established by the Oxford University Act 1854 to replace the Hebdomadal Board. Comprising the Vice-Chancellor and other university representatives, it directed university business, proposed legislation, and oversaw administration. Its name derives from the Latin for ‘weekly’, reflecting its regular meetings. It was replaced by the University Council in 2000.
