Imperial Federation
editA proposed federal union of the British Empire, combining central institutions and imperial representation with substantial self-government for its constituent territories. Promoted particularly by the Imperial Federation League (1884–93), it sought to strengthen imperial unity as colonial autonomy increased. No scheme was implemented, and the movement declined as the Dominions gained greater independence, formally recognised by the Statute of Westminster 1931.
