Irish peerage

The hereditary peerage of Ireland, comprising dukes, marquesses, earls, viscounts, and barons. After the Act of Union 1800, it remained distinct, but Irish peers did not automatically sit in the House of Lords. Instead, they elected 28 Representative Peers to sit at Westminster. New Irish peerages could still be created under restrictions imposed by the Union, but became increasingly uncommon.
