Judicature Act

edit

By John Simpson •

Usually referring to the Judicature Act 1873, which reorganised the superior courts of England and Wales by creating a unified High Court of Justice and Court of Appeal. It brought the former common-law courts and Court of Chancery into the new structure, while retaining their distinct divisions and jurisdictions. The Act was amended and supplemented by the Judicature Act 1875 and subsequent legislation, forming the basis of the modern court system.
