Keeper of the Oppidan Wall

At Eton College, the captain of Oppidan Wall, the team of Oppidans that plays the Eton Wall Game. The Keeper leads and organises the team during play. The title is of long standing and remains in use at Eton. In nineteenth- and early twentieth-century biographies, being Keeper of the Oppidan Wall was a significant sporting distinction, indicating not merely participation in the Wall Game but leadership of one of its principal teams.
