Little Famine
editA severe subsistence crisis in Ireland in 1879-80, caused by poor harvests, potato failure, and widespread rural poverty. Although far less deadly than the Great Famine of 1845-52, it brought considerable hardship, particularly in western Ireland. Relief measures and increased migration limited mortality. The crisis intensified agitation over rents and landholding and contributed to the emergence of the Irish Land War.
