Lord Chancellor
editOne of Britain’s most senior Officers of State, historically combining political, judicial, and parliamentary functions. The Lord Chancellor presided over the Court of Chancery and served as Speaker of the House of Lords. The office retained major judicial responsibilities into the twenty-first century. The Constitutional Reform Act 2005 transferred many of these functions elsewhere, but the Lord Chancellor remains a senior government minister.
