Medical and Chirurgical Society

A medical society founded in 1805 in London to bring physicians and surgeons together for the exchange of knowledge. It received a Royal Charter in 1834 and became the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society. In 1907 it merged with numerous specialist medical societies and became the Royal Society of Medicine, with sections covering different branches of medicine. Today it is a multidisciplinary membership organisation promoting medical education, research, and the exchange of healthcare knowledge.
