Medjidie

A Turkish order of chivalry established by Sultan Abdülmecid I in 1851, awarded for distinguished military or civil service. It was frequently conferred on British and other allied officers who served with the Ottoman Empire during the Crimean War. The Order had five classes, with the first class being the highest. It remained an important Ottoman decoration until the abolition of the Ottoman honours system following the establishment of the Turkish Republic in 1923.
