Million Shilling Fund

edit

By John Simpson •

A fundraising campaign launched by the Church Missionary Society in 1898 to raise one million shillings (£50,000) for missionary expansion during its centenary period. Supporters were encouraged to contribute individual shillings, allowing large numbers of people to participate. The fund helped finance the Society’s overseas missionary work and reflected the popularity of mass subscription campaigns among late-Victorian religious organisations.
