Municipal Reform League
editA London pressure group founded in 1881 to campaign for reform of the capital’s fragmented local government. Associated chiefly with Liberals, it advocated a representative authority for London, replacing the indirectly elected Metropolitan Board of Works. Its leading figures included Joseph Firth and Lord Hobhouse. Its campaigning contributed to the establishment of the elected London County Council in 1889.
