Newdigate Prize

An annual Oxford University poetry prize founded in 1806 by Sir Roger Newdigate. Traditionally awarded to an undergraduate for an English poem on a prescribed subject, with the winning poem recited at Encaenia, it became a notable Oxford literary distinction. Winners have included John Ruskin, Matthew Arnold, and John Buchan. The prize continues to be awarded.
