Numismatical Society

A society founded in 1836 for the study of coins, medals, and related subjects, and one of the principal centres of numismatic scholarship in nineteenth-century Britain. It published The Numismatic Chronicle, first issued in 1838, and built an international membership of collectors and scholars. In 1904 it received a Royal Charter and became the Royal Numismatic Society. The Society continues to promote the study of coins, medals, and monetary history and publishes the Numismatic Chronicle.
