Precentor

A member of the clergy responsible for directing the singing and musical aspects of worship in a cathedral or collegiate church. In an Anglican cathedral, the precentor is usually a member of the chapter and has particular responsibility for the cathedral’s liturgy, music, and choir. The office has medieval origins and remains an established position in many English cathedrals, although its precise responsibilities vary between institutions.
