prosector

A person, usually a medical or anatomical specialist, who prepares anatomical specimens and performs dissections for teaching, research, or demonstration. In nineteenth- and early twentieth-century medical schools and universities, a prosector commonly assisted professors or lecturers in anatomy by conducting dissections and preparing material for students. The title remains in use in some anatomical, veterinary, and zoological contexts.
