Registrar

An official responsible for keeping records or managing a particular administrative function. In general use, a registrar maintains an official register, such as records of births, deaths, or marriages. In universities and professional bodies, the registrar may oversee administrative affairs and records. In nineteenth- and twentieth-century medicine, a registrar was a junior doctor undertaking supervised hospital work, usually after qualification, and often preparing for specialist practice. The title continues in both administrative and medical use.
