Representative Irish peer

An Irish peer elected to represent the Irish peerage in the House of Lords at Westminster. Under the Act of Union 1800, Irish peers did not automatically sit in the Lords; instead, 28 Representative Peers were elected for life, with vacancies filled by further elections. Following establishment of the Irish Free State in 1922, no further elections were held.
