Royal Academy

The Royal Academy of Arts, founded in London in 1768 by leading artists, including Joshua Reynolds, promotes the visual arts through exhibitions, education, and training. Its elected members, artists and architects known as Royal Academicians, may use the initials RA. Based at Burlington House, Piccadilly, since 1868, it is an independent institution governed by its members and continues to hold an annual Summer Exhibition.
