Royal Institution

A London institution founded in 1799 to promote scientific research and public understanding of science. Granted a Royal Charter in 1800, it has occupied 21 Albemarle Street since its foundation. Its lectures and experimental demonstrations became associated with Humphry Davy and Michael Faraday, who established its Christmas Lectures in 1825. It continues to promote public engagement with science.
