Royal Military Academy

The Royal Military Academy at Woolwich was the British Army’s principal institution for training officers of the Royal Artillery and Royal Engineers. Founded in 1741, it provided a specialised education in mathematics, fortification, gunnery, and military engineering, and was closed in 1939, at the outbreak of the Second World War. It should not be confused with the Royal Military College at Sandhurst, which trained officers for the other branches of the Army.
