Rule 12

An Athenaeum Club rule introduced by 1835, allowing its Committee to elect distinguished individuals as extraordinary members without a ballot. Initially covering royal princes, Cabinet ministers, bishops, and judges, it was later extended to other officeholders. Such members were additional to ordinary membership. Its function is now largely covered by Rule 5.
