Select Committee

edit

By John Simpson •

A committee appointed by a legislative body, particularly the House of Commons or House of Lords, to investigate a subject and report its findings. It may gather evidence, question witnesses, and scrutinise government. Some committees are permanent; others are temporary. Commons committees generally reflect the party balance of the House, but this is not a universal requirement.
