Sevastopol

A major port and naval base in Crimea, founded by Russia in 1783 and becoming the principal base of its Black Sea Fleet. During the Crimean War, it was besieged for almost a year and fell to Allied forces in September 1855. Sevastopol remains an important naval base. Internationally recognised as part of Ukraine, it has been under Russian occupation since 2014.
