St Alban Hall

A medieval academic hall of Oxford University, acquired by Merton College in 1548 but continuing as a separate institution with its own Principal and students. Among its officers was John Henry Newman, Vice-Principal in 1825–26. Under nineteenth-century university reforms, the Hall was annexed by Merton in 1881, its remaining students becoming members of the College.
