St James’s Club

edit

By John Simpson •

A London gentlemen’s club founded in 1857, after a dispute at the Travellers’ Club led many members of the diplomatic corps to leave and establish a rival club. It became particularly associated with diplomats, foreign representatives, and the aristocracy, as well as authors. It moved to 106 Piccadilly in 1868 and merged with Brooks’s Club in 1978.
