St Stephen’s Club

edit

By John Simpson •

A London political club founded in 1870, principally for Conservative Members of Parliament and politically active Conservatives. Named after St Stephen’s Chapel in the old Palace of Westminster, it occupied a prominent clubhouse on Bridge Street from 1875, close to Parliament and connected to it by an underground passage. Its premises were sold to the Government in 1960, and the Club moved to Queen Anne’s Gate. It closed in 2012.
