Statistical Society

edit

By John Simpson •

A learned society promoting the collection, analysis, and interpretation of numerical information about society, economics, population, health, and related subjects. Such societies became prominent during the nineteenth century as statistics developed as a tool of government and social investigation. Important examples included the Statistical Society of London, founded in 1834, and the Dublin Statistical Society, founded in 1847.
