Sunday Tramps
editAn informal walking group organised by Leslie Stephen in the 1870s, whose members undertook long Sunday excursions in the countryside around London. Drawn largely from Stephen’s literary, academic, and professional circle, they included figures such as Frederic Maitland and George Meredith. The walks combined vigorous exercise with conversation and reflected Stephen’s enthusiasm for mountaineering and outdoor recreation.
