Tomline Select

edit

By John Simpson •

An Eton College distinction for boys who performed particularly well in the examination for the Tomline Prize, the school’s principal mathematics prize, first awarded in 1837. A boy described as a Tomline Select had been selected among the leading candidates but was not necessarily the prizewinner. The distinction appears in nineteenth-century records of pupils’ academic achievements.
