Travellers’ Club

edit

By John Simpson •

A London gentlemen’s club founded in 1819, largely through the initiative of Lord Castlereagh, as a meeting place for men who had travelled abroad and for distinguished foreign visitors and diplomats. It moved to its present Pall Mall clubhouse in 1832, designed by Charles Barry in an Italian Renaissance style. The Club has traditionally attracted diplomats, civil servants, military officers, and distinguished travellers. It remains a men-only club (2026).
