Truck Acts
editBritish statutes regulating the payment of wages and restricting the truck system, under which workers were paid wholly or partly in goods, tokens, or credit rather than money. The principal Truck Act 1831 required wages in specified trades to be paid in current coin and restricted payments through employers’ shops. Later Acts extended and amended these protections before their replacement by modern employment legislation.
