By John Simpson •

A British commission established under the Truck Commission Act 1870 to investigate the continued use of the truck system despite legislation requiring wages to be paid in money. Its commissioners, Charles Synge Christopher Bowen and Alexander Craig Sellar, investigated alleged abuses across Great Britain, particularly in mining and other industries. Their report and extensive evidence were presented to Parliament in 1871.
