United Universities Club

By John Simpson •

A London gentlemen’s club founded in 1821 for graduates and former members of Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Its purpose-built clubhouse in Suffolk Street, designed by William Wilkins and J. P. Gandy, opened in 1826 and was rebuilt by Reginald Blomfield in 1906-8. Membership was limited to 500 from each university. The Club closed in 1971 and merged with the Oxford and Cambridge Club in 1972, forming the United Oxford and Cambridge University Club.
