Vice-Chancellor’s Prize

edit

By John Simpson •

A prize awarded under the authority of a university’s Vice-Chancellor, the subject and conditions varying between institutions. At Oxford and Cambridge, Vice-Chancellor’s Prizes have historically rewarded achievement in academic exercises, including essays and compositions in English, Latin, or Greek. Similar prizes were established at universities elsewhere in Britain and the British Empire. The title therefore does not denote a single standard award.
